There is nothing worse than seeing the spinning wheel of death. We all hate it when our computer comes to the end of its life and its feels as though every time you click on a programme the wheel of death appears. Unfortunately the more we use our machines the slower they become. We all wish we could then run out and buy the latest machine but sometimes our budget just won’t allow it. Thankfully there are few thing you can try to help speed up your computer.
Firstly, try to stop opening so many tabs at once and try to not save everything to the desktop. Buying an external hardrive or saving items to the cloud could help speed up your computer almost immediately.
Another way you can speed up your computer is by giving your machine a good clean. Dust is the main culprit of slow performance and can get stuck in all areas of the computer including the fan, if this happens the fan can overheat and become slow in turn making the performance slow. A compressed can of air can do wonders for a computer, you can use it to clean all tricky areas of the computer including the keyboard and USB ports. This should resolve the issues of dust getting stuck.
Have you ever thought about cleaning up your boot process? Every time you turn on your computer your system will start automatically and boot us certain programmes for you. Sometimes this is incredibly useful but it can also be a pain if programmes that you don’t use are starting up every time you log on. To speed up your computer it could be a good idea to stop this. To do this, head to system preferences – users and groups – login items. Then select any programmes you don’t want running all of the time. If you are working on Windows, you head to ‘start up’ and lives in the Task Manager.
The very last thing you can try is cleaning up your hard drive. Take a good look through all of your files, over the years you would have built up a history of files and programmes you no longer use. Once you are happy delete any work you no longer need. Make sure you also go through your ‘downloads’, so many items are hidden away here they can take up so much space. Emptying the ‘trash/recycling’ bin every once in a while will also help to speed up your computer.
Have you tried out the above tips? Let me know if they work for you.
