The executive team at Croydon Council have the unenviable task of balancing the provision of first class services for its citizens against their ever shrinking budget from central Government.  In their quest to reduce costs and increase efficiency, they looked to Microsoft technology for the answer.
To rationalise their accommodation needs, Croydon Council teamed with Microsoft to roll out a programme of Windows 10 and Office 365 installed on laptops to mobilise their team and allow them to be more efficient and more flexible with their work location.  The online collaboration capabilities of Sharepoint has allowed the Council to reduce their annual print budget and the file search capability is saving staff valuable time.  Another great benefit is Office 365’s evergreen capability, allowing the IT team to prioritise resources as all updates are now taken care of automatically, allowing the team to focus on new projects that can benefit Croydon’s 380,000 residents.  As part of the PC estate renewal, many of the staff have chosen to use the Surface Pro, including many of the political members of the Council who had previously used their own devices and have now chosen to make a personal investment in a Surface.
Croydon are delighted with the success of the programme and have seen their requirement for office space reduce dramatically.  They have already been able to dispose of one property and rent out part of the main Council offices which has boosted their budget for the benefit of their citizens.
