Fire Alarms in Reigate and Redhill

Need a fire alarm for a shop below the castle grounds, an office in Redhill or a block of flats in Merstham? We design each system around how the building is actually used.

Applewood Fire & Security plans, fits and looks after fire alarm systems for firms, landlords, schools, care providers and households throughout Reigate and Banstead. We’re based in Betchworth, so Reigate, Redhill, Merstham, Woodhatch and Earlswood are all close by.

Buildings we see around Reigate

  • Town-centre shops, cafés and restaurants, many in older buildings where cable routes need thought.
  • Offices and commercial premises in Reigate and Redhill, from single suites to multi-tenant buildings.
  • Schools and nurseries, where alarms must suit pupils, staff and visitors.
  • Care homes and supported living, where residents may need help to leave and the alarm design has to reflect that.
  • Blocks of flats and HMOs managed by landlords and agents, including shared hallways and stairs.
  • Family homes on Reigate Hill, in Woodhatch, Earlswood, Merstham and nearby streets.

Old or awkward building? Wireless fire detection can let us add devices with less disruption to walls, ceilings and decoration.

How a Reigate project runs

Site visit. We walk the building with you, note escape routes, sleeping areas and high-risk rooms, and read your fire risk assessment if you have one.

System design. We then specify the right category of system. Systems for non-domestic premises are designed and installed to BS 5839-1, and systems for homes to BS 5839-6.

Fitting. Our engineers fit the panel, detectors, call points and sounders. Existing systems can often be extended or upgraded instead of replaced.

Testing and handover. Before we leave, every device is tested, and your team learns how to read the panel, silence a false alarm and log weekly tests.

Ongoing care. We service systems we fitted and ones fitted by others. A maintenance contract adds our 24/7 call-out. We can also arrange alarm monitoring through a monitoring centre.

Who is responsible?

For most premises other than single private homes, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 names a “responsible person”, typically the employer, owner, landlord or whoever controls the building. That person needs a current fire risk assessment and must act on it. Across Reigate and Banstead, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service enforces the Order, and its inspecting officers can visit.

We are not fire risk assessors. When an assessment says a better alarm is needed, that is where we come in.
