Merry Christmas keys on keyboard
Christmas is the one time of the year that almost everyone looks forward to, so it’s important you give yourself some time to enjoy it! I can appreciate that this is easier said than done – especially if you’re a bit of a control freak and find it difficult to take your eye off the ball when it comes to what’s ultimately your key source of revenue!
However, there are a few things you can do to distance yourself from your home-based business:
1.      Adjust your expectations.
You may be used to being chained to your desk, but over Christmas, a good way of staying connected to your business but not missing out on all the fun is to ‘sandwich in’ work duties, between key family events e.g. ring a work colleague on a way to a venue or answer a few emails whilst something is cooking in the oven.
2. Schedule time off.
If the holiday season is a downtime for your business,  Karen Hammons, author of Bringing Success Home suggests it may be the perfect time to schedule a few days off. “Any home-business owner needs time to rejuvenate,” says Hammons. If you do close the office door, be sure to communicate your holiday plans to clients, suppliers and employees well in advance.
3. Get family to pitch in
If it means they’ll get more quality time with you, it’s likely that family members will happily pitch in prior to the holiday period – to help you put key projects to bed. Hammons says incorporating family into the business is a great way for entrepreneurs to spend time with family while not neglecting their business. If you think your kids are too young to get involved with your business, Hammons says even small children can find fun in tasks such as sorting or cleaning up.
